That’s been my life for the last week. I haven’t really done anything. I haven’t been motivated to do anything. I ran twice last week – 3 miles on Wednesday, and 5 miles on Thursday, but I was still 5 miles short of my weekly goal. I’d like to say it’s because my body needs rest, but I think it’s because of the idea that an object in motion stays in motion, an object at rest stays at rest. I’m definitely on the “rest” side of the situation.
I’m not sure what’s wrong with me. I just don’t have anything to drive me right now. As I’ve said before, I’m confused about things professionally, and it’s just carried over into the other aspects of my life.
Fortunately, though, my drinking life has never been more active. This was margarita #7 on Friday.
Joking, kinda.
I hate feeling this way though, because running is such a huge part of my self-esteem and confidence, yet I am unmotivated to do anything, then I hate myself for being lazy (which comes from being unmotivated) and fat (where the self-esteem comes in).
I keep making both positive and negative excuses for my actions. Here’s an example:
- Positive: “It’s okay that I’m not running. I’ll really step up my cardio game when the new gym opens in town! I can’t wait to go to spin class!”
- Negative: “I’m just really not in the mood. I’d rather sit on the couch watching tv and play with my iphone until it’s bedtime.”
Pathetic. Although my runner friends on twitter are amazing at keeping me motivated. Even if their tweets aren’t directed towards me, I take them to heart.
Some of the best, within recent memory, are
- "Make yourself stronger than your excuses" - @tufmotherrunner
- "I get to (not have to) run in the morning!" - @hroberts123
And of course the accomplishments of my fellow Tweeps are astounding and drive me to be like them!
- Laura - @50by25 is a badass because she’s accomplished so much by such a young age, but continues to strive to be her best! She never quits!
- Janae - @hungryrunnergrl is amazing for balancing motherhood with running! From reading her blog, it seems like she bounced back so quickly after having a baby and is better than ever! Plus, I can relate to her since we both eat a ton of sugar!
I get to run 5 miles today (see how Holly’s mantra is working for me already? Let’s see how long it lasts…)! Then one of my dear friends and I are going to see "This is 40" this evening.
Let’s see how this run goes…
Do you ever get unmotivated?
If so, how do you pull yourself out of it?
What are your running mantras to keep you going?
Who are your favorite bloggers/tweeps?
